The Budweiser Superfest 2010 was scheduled to start at 7pm and we had almost an hour to drive down and pick up the boat and another hour or so to jet to the harbor and watch the concert. We arrived at a quarter to eight and found the concert had already started. Unfortunately we missed Raheem DeVaughn's performance because Jaheim was on stage by the time we got there. There were quite a few boats already docked and I'm guessing folks came early to get a good spot. Luckily, Gary, a fellow boater and friend of Thorne's was kind enough to secure a spot for us in front of his own boat. We parked the Aqua Boogie by the stage and thus began the festivities. Nothing like watching a concert from a boatside view!
I was looking forward to Kem's performance the most and when he finally came on stage the crowd went crazy as he sang some cuts off his old and new album. Love him! There's something amazing about listening to music on the water.
Day two of Thorne's pre-birthday celebration was well under way and he seemed to be in a great mood. I've noticed he is a different person when he's on the water. A much happier and calm person :-)
Anthony Hamilton closed the show with a bang and left the crowd in high spirits. We on the other hand decided to stay and bring in Thorne's b-day with a champagne toast. As the countdown to midnight began, the air filled up with new excitement as we raised our glasses high in honor of our friend and captain. That was a nice moment.
No later than an hour after the toast, the birthday boy passed out in the cabin downstairs and didn't come to until the following morning. Classic! Which means I spent the night on the boat while docked at the Harbor. After the crowd disappeared and it was all quiet and peaceful, the night became quite special. No noise just the sound of the water and the slow rocking of the boat. I slept like a baby.
